PAK LAH, DR M TO MEET?
Home Minister Datuk Seri Radzi Sheikh Ahmad has given broad hints that a meeting is finally on the cards between the Prime Minister and his former boss.
Without any prompting from reporters who attended his press conference at the ministry’s monthly meeting, Radzi said “something good” was going to happen in this Ramadan month and he was praying for it.
Asked what it was, he replied: “Something good lah. Who knows? The two men may have a change of heart.”
Pressed whether there was an initiative to bring Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad face-to-face, he replied: “Things like this, you cannot publicise.”
Radzi, who holds the powerful Umno secretary-general post, added: “We just pray. We have 13 days to go (before Ramadan ends). Insyallah (God-willing).”
However, he said he was not ready to reveal anything yet.
Abdullah’s administration has been heavily criticised by Dr Mahathir over what the former prime minister alleged as weak leadership and misdeeds in managing the country.
There had been private initiatives to mend ties between the two but so far none successful.
On a related matter, Radzi said an invitation to Dr Mahathir to attend the Umno general assembly next month would be sent out after the Hari Raya break.
Regarding the complaints of money politics at the Kubang Pasu Umno division meeting by five members, Radzi said the matter was now in the hands of the disciplinary board.
“People have the impression that as the secretary-general I will know everything. I don’t interfere at all.
”The complaints will go through the board’s secretariat. They are totally independent of my office,” he added.
Radzi said that once the board finishes their investigation, he would get a copy of the findings and forward it to the management committee chaired by Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. - The Star
