PECAT LIOW TIONG LAI

Padan muka Umno.. Gerakan ppng dulu lagi terik drpd dap ppng skrg... Melayu PP dari dulu tertindas Dollah sendiri merempat kat negeri sendiri nak memimpin negara skrg. Nampak lah orng orang yang dulu sanggup jilat kasut Dollah skrg kat belakang menjolok jer...

1. MCA gunting dalam lipatan

Dear Ruhanie,
What if AAB does not heed to PERKASA's demand? What is next course of action?
Action is far more better than words. What we need is action so that we can bring back the spirit of UMNO,as a party that represent the malays as a whole.I doubt PERKASA will turn words into action, since the president is not an UMNO member.
Looks like you become the DONKEY.

at a time when bn is not popular anymore, shouldn't the components be nice to one another rather be attacking one another?
there are of course many many issues that need airing and resolution, but perhaps showing a united front now is good. although i guess mca feels it has to fight like this to ensure its own survival.
so what can umno do? fight back to ensure its own survival?
then bn could just die (and not everyone will cry either).

Jika salah terpulanglah..

MCA perlu melakukan semua perkara demi memastikan kaum CINA kembali menyokong semula parti mereka.

Fikir-fikirkan lah.

Sdr Ruhanie Ahmad,

Well, in a movie animation, the donkey made wonderful, loyal companion to the ogre.

Looking at it from another perspective, I wonder if another anak Pahang will reiterate his stand on the NEP as he has quite recently in that the NEP could or would be dismantled when the right time and the right condition prevails itself. Ahh, a couple of sharp minds from Pahang.

I do wonder if MP Bentong did permit himself to be made a donkey or he alway was and is one? Or is he warming up to the portfolio of roles that he but must manage well.

I did notice that Tun Dr Mahathir is still very much a BN old faithful on the manner of handling issues such as this but it shows very much that age is catching up fast on him - how I am touch with a strong note of sadness.

However, it is refreshing to note that Abdullah is a bundle of energy and is hands on as to how to proceed in a world facing a food crisis. A couple of sharp Malay minds wouldn't you think so, Sdr Ruhanie? But wouldn't it at the same time put the Pekan MP between a rock and a hard place? Let it be than, as he has a lot of educating PM to catch up to in these uncertain global economic times.

Congratulation on a wonderful stand on the Constitution.

Terima Kasih, donkey.

Jika calon bebas PERKASA menang jangan masuk mana-mana kem ... BN jangan masuk ... PR pun jangan masuk.

What have we been doing since merdeka? What have they been doing since merdeka. The state of affair today do not happen overnight.

How did Melaka fall? Now then, how did they gain economic strength?

Put ourselves in their shoes....then think again.

Look at most of the so called rich or successful bumiputra. See who they are, how they get there.....look deep into them. Some we are very proud of them, others there is nothing great about them. Phrase "Ali Baba" did not surface for nothing and for no reason.

We surely have to work harder, be more knowledgeable, be accountable and be good muslim. Our earlier brothers have done it before with great integrity, noble, not represive, not oppressive, without denying the right and opportunitues for others.

Surely a lot of you out there agree that we do have quite a number out there working so hard, with skill and knowledge, honest and sincere but could not maximise their potential and some could not even have a fair chance to compete simply because of the leakages and bad practices,

Hence we should realise the importance of honesty, integrity and high moral of those that we put and/or choose into high office. Ever wonder how many can be accepted by their people if their people know the bad habit that these "seen as good and respectable people" behind the voters?

No such thing as their bad habit (if any) is personal. How could we trust someone who has bad personility. Allah lantik nabi pun terbukti denagn personality yang utuh.

Kalau anak itu di corak oleh ibu bapa.....perhaps it is not wrong to say that rakyat dan bangsa itu tercorak oleh pemimpin.

What we see today is nothing more that what we bred all this while

Spotlighting the Abdullah years
30 Oct 08 : 9.00AM
By N Shashi Kala
shashikala@thenutgraph.com

IT'S been exactly five years since Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi took over as prime minister. Admittedly, he had some big shoes to fill — his predecessor Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad reshaped the country's physical and psychological landscape in his quest to fulfil a particular vision of development by 2020.

(© Wan Leonard)
But aside from the gleaming towers and the Malaysia Boleh! sloganeering, there was also growing disenchantment with Mahathir's iron rule. His 22 years saw, among others, the suppression of dissent, the rise in cronyism, the growing prevalence of money politics within Umno and corruption within government.

He brooked no opposition, whether within his own party or among critics of his policies, be they the media, opposition politicians or the judiciary.

So, when he decided to step down, handing over to his chosen successor Abdullah — his fourth deputy after Tun Musa Hitam, Tun Ghaffar Baba and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim — his decision was greeted at first with shock, followed by much relief.

Kinder, gentler politician

Abdullah, who was known throughout his long political career as a clean politician, took office on 31 Oct 2003 in an atmosphere of good will and much anticipation. He promised a kinder, gentler form of governance. He vowed to do away with corruption and cronyism, and to put the people's interests first. To counter the threat posed by PAS, he put forth a progressive face for the religion by espousing Islam Hadhari.

In his first address in Parliament on 3 Nov 2003, Abdullah outlined his vision for the country, pledging to continue with his predecessors' policies. More importantly, he called on legislators, administrators, the private sector, political parties, the media and Malaysian citizens from all walks of life to "work with" him.

For a while at least, his message, delivered in his soft-spoken, almost cajoling manner, seemed to work. There was a renewed sense of hope for a better Malaysia for all Malaysians, with a prime minister who promised to be PM for all.

It was this pledge of reform to reduce corruption and improve racial unity that helped sweep the Barisan Nasional (BN) to its best ever showing at the 11th general election in 2004. The BN won 198 out of 220 seats, wiping out the opposition parties and leaving PAS holding on to Kelantan with only the slimmest of margins.

Buoyed by the huge mandate, Abdullah could easily have leveraged this to sweep out the vestiges of the Mahathir era from his cabinet. Yet, despite expectations that he would drop several unpopular ministers who were closely aligned with Mahathir, Abdullah kept them.

Despite the BN manifesto promises of security, peace and
prosperity in the 2008 general election, the coalition lost its
two-thirds majority in Parliament (Source: bn2008.org.my)
Tackling corruption

On the corruption front, he did make some headway, at least in the beginning. There were a few notable arrests such as those of former head of Perwaja Steel Tan Sri Eric Cheah and former Land and Cooperative Development Minister Tan Sri Kasitah Gaddam. Even Umno seemed determined to clean up, with party vice-president Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad charged with money politics.

(Cheah was acquitted in 2007 while the trial of Kasitah, who resigned from his post after being charged with criminal breach of trust, is ongoing. Isa resigned from his party post on 17 Oct 2004 after being found guilty by the Umno disciplinary board.)

But after the initial flurry of arrests, Abdullah, reacting to pressure from within his party, seemed to lose his nerve and called back the hounds.

It didn't help matters that Abdullah was also prone to flip-flopping on major issues, such as the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC), the memo by non-Muslim cabinet ministers on religious conversions and the interfaith commission.

The recent changes in the date for the transition of power to his deputy, Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, is another example, though this may have more to do with the infighting within Umno than anything else.

Controlling the media

Abdullah's administration also saw the media, cowed from years of Mahathirism, attempting to reassert themselves in the role of keeping the government honest. Newspapers such as theSun began to highlight cases of abuse of power, while on the internet, news portals and blogs began taking a critical look at the government's failings.

But press freedom under Abdullah was only skin deep — the administration began to clamp down on the media, sending out show cause letters to the press and in some instances threatening the use of the Printing Presses and Publications Act. In the latest incident, three newspapers - theSun, Sin Chew Daily and Suara Keadilan — received show cause letters on 12 Sept 2008.

Raja Petra Kamarudin's wife, Marina Lee Abdullah, speaking to the media
at an anti-ISA candlelight vigil in Bukit Aman on 13 Sept 2008
Additionally, the Abdullah administration detained Malaysia Today blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin and Sin Chew Daily reporter Tan Hoon Cheng on the same day under the Internal Security Act (ISA). Tan was later released. Another blogger, Shieh "Kickdefella" Syed Azidi Syed was arrested for sedition later that month.

During Abdullah's premiership, Malaysia's ranking in the Reporters Without Borders Worldwide Press Freedom Index dropped from 92 in 2006 to 132 in 2008.

Battling Mahathir

One of Abdullah's major changes was the discontinuation of grandiose projects, namely the so-called crooked bridge to Singapore which had been championed by Mahathir. But the former prime minister would not take this lying down and soon began an increasingly acrimonious war of words with the Abdullah government.

In the beginning at least, Abdullah chose to keep an "elegant silence" but the venomous attacks from Mahathir did not cease. A reconciliation meeting on 22 Oct 2006 failed to achieve anything, and Mahathir continued to be Abdullah's worst critic. It culminated with Mahathir's call for a stronger opposition in the run-up to the 8 March 2008 elections.

But even before then, the tide had turned against Abdullah because his administration was seen to have failed to fulfil the promises he had made. People started to take to the streets. There was the Bersih (Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections) rally on 10 Nov 2007, followed by another rally organised by the Hindu Action Rights Force (Hindraf) on 25 Nov. Both rallies were dispersed with force, and in the case of Hindraf, five leaders were detained under the ISA.

The backlash, especially from the non-Malay Malaysian community who had lost faith in the prime minister, was dramatic. When the results were tallied for the March general election, Abdullah and the BN had lost their two-thirds majority, besides losing Selangor, Penang, Perak, Kedah, Kelantan and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur to the opposition.

He faced immediate calls to resign, but managed to fend off the wolves within his party by agreeing in June 2008 to a succession plan with Najib, to take effect in mid-2010.

But after the 26 Aug 2008 Permatang Pauh by-election, which marked Anwar's return to Parliament, Abdullah faced calls for an even earlier exit, culminating with his decision on 8 Oct to not contest the Umno presidency.

Transition of power

Abdullah said he would stay on until the Umno elections in March 2009, and then hand over the reins to the incoming party president and BN chair, who traditionally becomes the prime minister.

Until then, Abdullah is intent on carving out a legacy for himself as a reformist. He has several major reforms he hopes to see through before leaving office — to reform the judiciary and enhance the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA)'s effectiveness, as well as to widen the social safety net for Malaysians.

These initiatives involve tabling two bills in Parliament — one on the setting up of a Judicial Appointments Commission, and the other on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission. He also hopes to push through a bill to establish a Special Complaints Commission to Enhance the Effectiveness and Integrity of Law Enforcement Agencies.

Whether he can push through the reforms, some of which are opposed by Umno members themselves, in the remaining months is left to be seen. But in the final analysis, Abdullah's administration will be remembered for its failure to deliver on his promises.

Sebenarnya datuk, siapa yang harus dipersalahkan dulu. UMNO atau MCA. kebiadapan MCA? mengapa dibiarkan. UMNO tak berani ke?Kalau presiden UMNO tak berani nak tunjukkan ketegasan jangan harap le MCA akan insaf. UMNO takut apa?

As'kum Datuk,

Sejarah membuktikan bahawa 13 Mei berlaku kerana isu bangsa.

Sdr Ruhanie Ahmad,

Kata-kata dhaif saya:
it is refreshing to note that Abdullah is a bundle of energy and is hands on as to how to proceed in a world facing a food crisis

October 29, 2008
The Global Meltdown
How the Food and Financial Crises are Interconnected

By ERIC TOUSSAINT

In 2007-2008, the biggest international economic and financial crisis since 1929 broke out. Were it not for the massive and concerted intervention of public authorities in coming to the rescue of thieving bankers, the present crisis would already have reached more ample proportions. Here too, the interdependency is striking. Between 31st December 2007 and the 18th October 2008, all the world's stock exchanges fell dramatically, by 30 to 40%, sometimes more, for the stock exchanges of the industrialized countries, 45% for Turkey, Argentina, Brazil and India, 60% for Russia and China[2]. The colossal build-up of private debts, which is entirely created from fictitious capital, has finally exploded in the industrialized countries starting with the United States, the most heavily indebted economy of the planet. Indeed, in 2008, the sum of public and private debt in the United States amounted to 50 000 billion dollars i.e. 350% of GDP. This economic and financial crisis, which has already spread to the entire planet, will affect the developing countries more and more, even those which still believe themselves safe. Capitalist globalisation has not delinked or disconnected economies. On the contrary, countries like China, Brazil, India or Russia have not been able to protect themselves from this crisis, and this is only the beginning.

The food crisis.

In 2007-2008, the standard of living of more than half of the world population dropped dramatically when the price of food soared. There were massive demonstrations in at least fifteen countries in the first half of 2008. Tens of millions of people more than before faced hunger, and hundreds of millions had to reduce their food consumption (and consequently, their access to other essential goods and services[3]).

All of this was the result of decisions made by a handful of companies in the agro-industry and the financial sector (the institutional investors who contribute to doping the prices of agricultural products) with the backup of the US administration and the European Commission[4]. In fact, the percentage of exports in the world production of food remains small. Only a small part of the rice, wheat or corn produced in the world is exported, while by far the greater amount is consumed in the country of production. However, the price on the export market determines the price on the local market. The export market price is fixed in the United States, mainly in three stock exchanges (Chicago, Minneapolis and Kansas City). Consequently, the price of rice, wheat or corn in Timbuctu, Mexico, Nairobi, and Islamabad is directly affected by the evolution of the prices of these cereals on the United States stock markets.

In 2008, under pressure and to avoid being overthrown by the rioting at the four corners of the earth, the authorities in the developing countries had to take measures to guarantee their citizens access to staple foods.

This state of affairs resulted from several decades of governments gradually withdrawing their support from local cereal producers – who are mainly small producers – and following the neoliberal requirements imposed by institutions such as the World Bank and the IMF as part of the Structural Adjustment Programmes and programmes to reduce poverty. In the name of the "fight against poverty" the institutions have convinced governments to carry out policies which have reproduced or even reinforced poverty. Furthermore, during the last few years, many governments have signed bilateral treaties (especially free trade treaties) which made the situation worse. The WTO Doha round of trade negotiations also had dire consequences.

What happened?

Act 1.

The developing countries gave up the trade barriers which protected the local producers from competition from foreign agricultural producers, mainly North American and European large agro-exportation companies. These then swamped local markets with agricultural products sold for less than it cost local farmers to produce them. This bankrupted local producers, many of whom migrated to the big cities of their own countries or the industrialized countries.

According to the WTO, subsidies paid out by the governments of the North to their big agricultural firms on the domestic market are not in breach of anti-dumping regulations. As Jacques Berthelot wrote, "whereas, for the man in the street, dumping means exporting at a price lower than the average production cost of the exporting country, for the WTO, it cannot be called dumping as long as exports are at the domestic price. Even if that is less than the average production cost[5]."

In short, the countries of the European Union, the United States or other exporting countries may swamp the markets of others with agricultural products benefiting from heavy domestic subsidies. The corn exported to Mexico by the United States is a typical case in hand.

Because of the free trade agreement (FTA) signed by the United States, Canada and Mexico, the latter has abandoned its trade barriers regarding its northern neighbours. Corn exports from the United States to Mexico increased nine fold between 1993 (the last year before enforcement of the FTA) and 2006. Hundreds of thousands of Mexican families have had to stop producing corn as theirs cost more than corn coming from the United States, produced with industrial technology and heavy subsidies. Not only was that an economic disaster, but it also undermined their cultural identity as corn is the symbol of life in Mexican culture, particularly for people of Maya origin. Many corn growers abandoned their fields and went to look for work in the industrial towns of Mexico or the United States.

Act 2.

Mexico, which has thus became dependant on US corn to feed its population, was confronted with a sharp price rise of the cereal caused partly by speculation on the stock exchanges of Chicago, Kansas City, and Minneapolis and partly by the production of ethanol from corn by the northern neighbour.

The Mexican corn producers were no longer there to satisfy domestic demand and Mexicans were confronted with a soar in the prices of their staple food tortilla, the cornmeal pancake which replaces the bread or the bowl of rice of other parts of the world. In 2007 enormous riots shook Mexico.

In specific conditions, the same causes have produced almost exactly the same effects. The interdependency of food markets on a global scale was pushed to a level never reached before.

The global food crisis lays bare the workings of our capitalist society: the pursuit of maximum private profit in the short term. Capitalists see food as nothing more than a merchandise to be sold for the highest possible profit. Food, an essential element of survival for human beings, is transformed into an instrument of pure profit. This sinister logic must be brought to its knees.

It is time to abolish the control of capital over large-scale production and marketing and give priority to policies of food sovereignty.

The climate crisis. The effects of climate change have temporarily disappeared from the headlines, supplanted by the financial crisis. Nevertheless, the process is underway on a global scale and here too, interdependency is obvious. Indeed the populations of the "poor" countries will be much more affected than those of the "rich" countries, but no one will come out of it unscathed.

The convergence of these three crises shows populations the need to free themselves from capitalist society and its productivist model. The interdependency of capitalist crises highlights the need for an anti-capitalist and revolutionary programme on global scale. Only international and systemic solutions can make for a favorable outcome for the populations and the environment. Humanity cannot be fobbed off with half measures.

Sorry to say...after reading all the comments above, only now i understood that malays can never learn and will continue getting cheated. They talk about article article 153 and social contract but they tend to be blind when we talk about article 8(http://mt.m2day.org/2008/content/view/14365/84/) How i wish if all Malays are intelligent like RPK. How i wish if we have a brilliant leader like Lim Kit Siang in DAP for stronger voice. How i wish if MIC have no leaders like Samy Vellu. 1 thing for sure, this country can never move forward with such narrow minded mindset. For Malays, they just cannot differentiate Religion and Politic. The best part is, they dont realize that they are in such situation, narrow minded and blind. What the know is Malay rights, Islam and wanting a Malay leader for every single shit organization even if they are corrupted. When people challenge the constitution, they will call Perpaduan Melayu demi bangsa and Agama. Perpaduan Negara tak yah ke? Pity Malays. Kesian Melayu...Its ok, stick to your rights if you think Malays cannot live without help.

Dato' ,

Ini salah siapa ?

We should be pointing our fingers to the Malays leadeship yang penakut, bachul dan goyah sekarang.

Latest statement by DPM."we should liberalize NEP".

In the first place, who the hell is Najib to say this. Kalau hendak populariti pun, not at the expense of the Malays.

With regards to MCA's proposal tu, saya rasa why not forget all about equity given. Why not give 100% to the Chinese!!!

Let's see the implications.

I believe, MCA or other non Malay party hendak melihat keadaan yang semikian. Baru puas hati mereka.

They can try tetapi mereka jangan lupa yang orang2 Melayu pun tidak lah sebodoh untuk membiarkan nya.

Salam

Datuk,

Kita mesti lakukan tindakan. Itu yang penting. Bertindak BUKAN bercakap sahaja. Ia tak membawa kita ke mana-mana.

Hang Jebat said...

Datuk,

Kekayaan negara ibarat Ceweklah...

Terima Kasih Sdr Ruhanie dan Sdr Spycatcher03.
