STRONG QUAKE HITS INDONESIA'S WEST JAVA, POTENTIAL FOR TSUNAMI

JAKARTA, Aug 26 (Bernama) -- A powerful shallow quake with magnitude of 6.6 rocked West Java province of Indonesia on Tuesday, with potential for tsunami, Xinhua news agency quoted the Indonesian Meteorology Agency as saying.

The quake was felt up nearby Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia , with intensity of 2 to 3 MMI (modified mercally intensity), an official of the agency, named Hidayanti, said.

The quake struck at 10:07 a.m. (0307 GMT) with epicenter at 125 kilometers northwest of Ujungkulon in West Java province and 20 kilometers under seabed, she said.

"We have issued a tsunami warning," Hidayanti told Xinhua.
